1. I love seeing Petrol posts of all kinds.
2. Peter and Carol are my OTP, they really are. Which I suppose means I ship them ‘more than Peter/MJ (and any other normal woman)’ too. But I love Peter and MJ as well, and Peter and Gwen, and Carol and Tony or Carol and Jess Drew etc. I love them both so much and I love to see them happy and so I love to see positive shippy posts even if it’s not a ship I really like personally.
3. The use of the word “normal” to mean “non-super-powered” bugs me.
4. I’m not reading Superior Spider-Man because I seriously doubt I would enjoy it… I have no idea what that Spock reference means?
5. I’m reblogging this because of Petrol and because it’s not an attack on a creator, or another ship, though it’s a little closer to that line of negativity than I generally like to get…. anybody out there have a Petrol confession that is full of #positivity? In response to the Avengers “Unity” Squad in Uncanny Avengers: Thor, Havok, Captain America, Rogue, Scarlet Witch and Wolverine.

Inspired by Cyclops’s message to the world in Uncanny X-Men #3: “And to our human friends. Our supporters. We feel your love. And we will fight for you too.”

Sadly, this will never happen.

I’m not reading Uncanny Avengers or Uncanny X-Men… but I love this team line-up a lot.

In the early days of Carol’s magazine career, Mary Jane — who’s been following her writing — seeks her out for friendship and advice. Carol has her “brainless party girl” mask rumbled right from the start, and recognizes a kindred spirit. Sadly, this mentorship wasn’t long to be: it only lasted the first three issues of a 23-issue run, and to the best of my knowledge hasn’t been acknowledged since, even after Carol befriended Peter in more recent years.

It’s a natural consequence of serialized, multi-author narratives that relationships get lost to attrition. Dropped subplots, creative transitions, changing tastes and characterizations all do their best to erode character history almost as fast as it accretes. This holds true whether you’re talking about Spider- or Demolition Man, but women characters seem to have it rougher across the board, especially for relationships with other women. They don’t have as many of their own titles and those that do get created rarely last as long, for starters. There’s also the fact that the industry remains dominated by male writers, many of whom don’t write relationships between women with the same nuance as they do relationships involving men, nor prioritize them as highly.

Segueing from the Spider-Verse, probably my favorite thing about Kelly Sue DeConnick’s current run on Captain Marvel is that so much of the story hinges on interaction between women: women who are friends with a history, women who’ve just met, women who are mentors and who learn from each other, women who are friendly rivals and women who are adversaries. It’s a delight to read, though a slightly bittersweet one. I shouldn’t be this happy to find a mainstream superhero comic in which the emotional lives of women are so richly textured; it shouldn’t be so uncommon. I’m glad it’s here, though, and I plan to keep supporting it with my wallet as long as it lasts.

And hey, if there’s ever an issue where Carol and her friends go clubbing, I know which new nightclub I’d like them to check out.

So what’s going on in Boston right now is pretty fucking scary, right? And, like me, you’re probably sitting in front of your computers in varying places around the world, feeling pretty helpless.

I know I am. I never know what to say when things like these happens. But it occurred to me, as I was reading through the news, that a lot of the people that follow me here have one thing in common - a burning love for Captain Marvel. And you know where Carol Danvers is from? Boston. So here’s what we’re going to do, Carol Corps!

If you are in the local area, and you want to donate blood, fucking kudos! The Red Cross has announced that they are currently fine with blood, but they WILL need more over the next week to replenish supplies that will be used today and tomorrow. Find your local Red Cross here, and call to see if they are in need.

More than blood, the Red Cross are going to need funds. Disasters like this are going to tap emergency services dry, so if you can donate, DO DONATE. This is the perfect thing to do for those of us not in the area, who can’t donate blood for any reason, like me. I know a lot of us are financially strapped right now, but $5 isn’t much, right? If 100 people donate $5, suddenly you have an ass-crap-ton of money. Let’s get a donate chain going, Carol Corps! If you were setting aside some money for my next commission sale, I would much rather you donate it today!

Now, let’s take care of ourselves. I’m following the BBC for news updates, because I personally find a lot of american news stations to be biased and kinda scary. But Wolf Blitzer had a moment of wisdom in which he urged people not to jump to conclusions. As yet, no group of organisation has claimed responsibility for these explosions. We do not know who caused them. Please don’t panic, and don’t jump to unfounded conclusions!

If you are trying to find someone that was at the marathon today, you can use this form to do so. Reconnect with friends and family here. If you are shaken or upset by any of this, THAT IS FINE. Just because you are not directly affected does not mean you are not susceptible to distress or shock. Matt Fraction posted an extremely helpful entry right here. Take care of yourselves.

Wrapping up, I want to post a quote that I have seen making the rounds on twitter and tumblr thisafternoon. I never had the pleasure of watching Mr. Rogers when I was little, but I found a lot of comfort in this. I’m not sure how cannon this is, especially since Superior Spiderman probably ruined all chances of this ever happening again, but I absolutely adore Carol Danvers and Peter Parker together. They’ve gone on a disastrous date and had some very flirtatious team ups. Venom even indicated that Carol had some feelings for Peter that were deeper than he realized. But now MJ is back and Doc Oc is in Peter’s body and has blown all my hopes and dreams to hell.
