Captain Marvel Contest Update

We’ve had three issues of Captain Marvel and three winners:

Issue one: maplesugar

Issue two: the-magic-avenger

Issue three: haildestr0yer

Captain Marvel #4 will be release September 26 so look for a contest post around the 20th. Captain Marvel #7 will be released toward the end of November and we’ll be having our first Power of Seven drawing — I’m looking at some clever and unique Carol Danvers jewelry for the first prize so keep checking back for updates! Remember to support the title and the creators, Carol Corps!

How much do we love Captain Marvel? SO MUCH, OF COURSE.

BUT OMGOSH. On my 20th re-read of the day, I just realized something SO FREAKING COOL (and yes, I’m crazy slow, shut up).

So on the splash page above we’ve got the little blurb about how they’re recognizing these long-lost awesome women who, oh, look kinda familiar to the readers, right? No biggie.

EXCEPT.

IT LOOKS LIKE CAROL MIGHT BE CHANGING THINGS. :D

We get the rather innocuous piece of information that cute little “Bee” solider girl has been learning how to sketch cartoons from the other soldier who died in the previous issue. Okay, whatever. Oh, and in case you haven’t been following, blonde pig-tails? Her name is Daisy. Keep this in mind.

We get her full name here, last name “Kawasaki”. LET’S REMEMBER THAT, SHALL WE???

We see she’s been sketching Carol. Hey, I would, too: chick is badass and one day I will have her costume (and by “one day”, I mean this Halloween. Parts of it are in the mail as we speak). Also, she can fly. Yay sketching that.

BUT THEN. AND THIS IS THE THING I DIDN’T REALIZE UNTIL MY ROOMMATE WAS LIKE “Oh, that cute page is a foreshadowy thing”. :

Oh, cute, an old-timey Captain Marvel comic! Tee-hee. How neat.

WAIT. Look. LOOK RIGHT THERE. AT THE ILLUSTRATOR.

OH SHIT IT’S BEE. BEE TOTALLY ILLUSTRATED THIS.

“JUST LAST YEAR” “BY HER GRANDCHILDREN” “DAISY DIDDLE”.

NOT ONLY is it totally illustrated by Bee… BUT IT’S WRITTEN BY DAISY. GUYS. GUYS.

GUYS. Carol is TOTALLY changing the past, AND THIS COMIC IS ONE OF THE EFFECTS OF THAT!!!

I’m sorry, that is just ABSURDLY COOL.

And, as if that wasn’t enough, we get a little bit of OH MY FREAKING GOSH foreshadowing:

UGK YOU GUYS I know this could be a total misdirect but GOSH I’M SO FREAKING PSYCHED FOR THE NEXT ISSUE. GUYS. GUYS. UGH.

Bonus:

I grabbed my comics before I went into the office today and was reading AVX: Versus while sitting on my buddy’s desk. We’re grad students, BTW. I came across the following, BUSTED A GUT LAUGHING, and shoved it in his face. The room filled with much laughter for a long, long time (key point: we are grad students):

Oh gosh hello my life. What are you doing in my comic books?????

Captain Marvel #2 Contest (Full rules and overview HERE)

Like or Reblog this post and you could win a copy of the issue, a pin (thanks Kelly Sue!) and entry into the larger contest.

Note: It is difficult for me to contact you if you don’t have an Ask box.

Captain Marvel #1 Captain Marvel #1

Captain Marvel #1

CAPTAIN MARVEL #1 (Deconnick/Soy) lands one week from today. So for the next seven days I will be running a contest. It’s the easiest contest ever to enter. All you have to do is click the little heart to “like” this post. The swishy “reblog” button also works. And if you do not have a tumblr account just add a comment below — any comment at all but I suggest a message to Kelly Sue and Dexter about how excited you are, I promise she’ll see it :) (note: if you are mean I will delete it).

So what do you win?

1) A copy of the issue. Physical* or digital** is your choice. I have the book pre-ordered at more than one store because I am determined to be a One Woman Carol Corps Army. Here’s Kelly Sue’s post on pre-ordering if you don’t know the background and here is where I complain that my favorite titles get cancelled because “no one is reading them”. I’m tired of being “no one” so I am trying to be at least four people.

2) A super cute Captain Marvel button* as seen here (pic borrowed from Heroes and Villains post about their own contest).

3) Entry into the main contest which will have additional drawings every seventh issue. My understanding is the series has been approved for six issues so the seventh is the key. Also seven is the most powerfully magical number. The prizes for these drawings are TBA but will include such things as related collectibles (ex: Heroclix) and pilot paraphernalia. The longer the series goes on the more creative I will get and here is where I point out that I own this jacket. I’m not saying you can win one but I am saying that I have resources and I want this series to make it to at least issue #56 (Brian Reed’s MS. MARVEL ended at #50).

*I will ship anywhere FedEx goes.

**If you choose digital I am willing to buy you a different title if you have already purchased CAPTAIN MARVEL.

Go! Tell your friends! <3!

kellysue:

“Sorted by Hotness,” y’all.

Last big push to get your pre-orders in on Captain Marvel, folks!  The official cut-off has passed (I think?), but I’m led to believe that there is actually still some wiggle room for stores to up their orders — but not for much longer!

For more information than you could ever want on pre-ordering, see this post on my blog.

Or skip right to the preorder forms: previews version or ours.

Find your local comic book store here.  (Did you know Girl-Wonder.org maintains a list of Feminist-Friendly Comic Book Stores here?)

Or go through Things From Another World online.

Thank you!!

I’ve seen the first issue. You want need to pre-order.
